BAKGROUND

BAKGROUND is the music project of {Redacted}.

Taking influence from late 90s to early 2000s UK rave culture and media from PSX to MTV, BAKGROUND creates music in a range of styles from explosive jungle. smooth garage and enveloping swirling minimal ambient.

These tracks, although disparate in style, are linked by a heavy dose of era appropriate tape hiss and pirate radio style lo-fi production. BAKGROUND’s jungle tracks are like that of rediscovered media, anonymous gold discovered on an unlabeled cassette mix tape found in the glove compartment of a second hand car. Whilst his ambient output is reminscent of falling asleep to the repeating motifs of a video game menu screen in a room illuminated only by the glow of the CRT screen. 

Despite a lowkey approach including an all out rejection of social media, BAKGROUND’s masterful rendering of these atmospheres have caught the attention of many, his tracks appearing mixes by Aphex Twin as well experiencing unexpected viral success on Tiktok.
